February Sugar Block Club and Craftsy BOM 2012

Not perfect, but done.  I'm not crazy about paper piecing.

Only one more block to do and then I'm working on a lap quilt for a nurse who was particularly helpful to DH in the hospital.  Guess my Easy Street and Scrap Vomit can wait a little while.

BOM's and DH

I didn't sew at all for almost a month, as DH went in the hospital for an ablation and ended up with open heart surgery.  After two weeks he was sent home and went back in after about three days, long story, but he spent a few more days in ICU and then a few in the regular room and this time released to rehab for an approximate one to four week stay.  I stayed with him almost 24 hours a day when he was in the hospital, but now that he is in rehab I stay with him about 12 hours a day, over night actually.  In the hospital he had a private room and there was a recliner and a love seat, in the rehab, only a straight chair and a roommate.  I stay over night, but can't sleep well there, so go home to rest.  Since I can't always rest, I have sewn.  I tried to catch up on the Rainbow Scrap Challenge first and here were my first blocks.

Next, I did the 16 patches.

Then on to what will be either a Rainbow Scrap Bargello or a Rainbow Scrappy Trip Around the World from Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville.

The leftover 2 1/2 inch strips will become a Rainbow Strippie Jelly Roll Race style quilt at the end.

Here's a wrap up of February's purple RSC.   Top left, possible bargello, top right, 16 patches, bottom left possible trip around the world, middle right strippie, and bottom right snowballs and nine patches.  If you want to enjoy lots of purples and maybe some pinks, go to Angela's blog, Soscrappy here.

Here is the lesson four block from the Craftsy Re-piecing the past, Civil War Blocks Then and Now class.  I didn't read the directions very well and had to do this one twice.   My blocks aren't as crooked as they seem, my design flannel is over a louvered door, and it is wavy.   My colors for this one are blue, gold, green and red.   I'm a bit color challenged, so each quilt is a big ? mark.

Another Craftsy class, this is the February lesson from the Craftsy BOM 2013.   Brown, cheddar, green and purple for this one.   I can only hope.

These two are the February blocks from the Craftsy BOM 2012.  I've made them before, but this time I'm adding them to the Sugar Block Club blocks for a queen sized quilt.  Again, they are square, but don't look it due to the wavy flannel.  Pink, gray, red and blue for this one.  I still have the Sugar Block Club and my OKC Modern Quilter's Guild block to do and then I'll be caught up on my BOM's.   Hope next month is better, but when DH comes home I guess I could be busier as it's hard to know how independent he will be.   Good news for my little town in Central Florida.  We had a Hobby Lobby open this week so now I'll have my local quilt shop, Walmart and Hobby Lobby within 15 minutes.  I know how fortunate that I am.

Husband Still In Hospital

It was supposed to be an ablation of the heart on January 16, and a one or two day stay.   That turned into open heart surgery, a pericardiectomy.   Here it is January 29th and we are still here, hoping to go home soon, he is doing fairly well.

Craftsy Repiecing the Past - Civil War Blocks

Sorry about the bad lighting and the crooked photography.  The colors are dark, my light is too dark, but the first segment of the Craftsy Repiecing the Past - Civil War quilt is now done.  I think that my other blocks will lighten it up, red, green and cream will be added.    I'm trying to have different color schemes for the different BOM's that I'm working on so that it doesn't get too   boring.   I'm not a purist, I will be mostly using the fabrics that I have, for I use the term Civil War Quilt loosly.   The instructor is Kaye England, and it sure was hard to go by her instructions of not pressing, except for finger pressing until the block is complete.  I had to make myself not press.
Tomorrow, my husband goes for his ablation for his heart and he will probably be in the hospital a day to two, so no more sewing for a few days.

First Small Finish for the Year

January pink wrap-up - top left - could use the Rainbow Scrappy Trip Along blocks below for Rainbow Scrappy Bargello instead, top middle - future Rainbow Jelly Roll Race style strippie quilt, top right - 6" heart blocks, bottom left - Rainbow Scrappy Trip Along, bottom middle - Rainbow 16 patches, bottom right - Rainbow 9 patch and snowball blocks.

If I hang in there until the end of the year I'll have 4 new rainbow quilts to show for my scrappy efforts.  Not bad, and a big thank you to Angela at Soscrappy.

I looked at the 9 hearts that I had done and thought about how I'd been wanting to make a Valentine's table topper.  I couldn't help myself, this morning before I had to take DH for his blood work I got started and when I got back I finished this reversible table topper.  The center of the back was all scraps, as was the pink and most of the background of the hearts, but I have to admit, the borders were from yardage.  In my defense though, the batting I pieced from scraps and the slightly unfortunate scrappy binding was also leftovers from other projects.

More Pink Rainbow Scrap Challenge

This is getting scary, I can't seem to stop.  I saw Edith's post here at Inch by Inch Quilting and then I had to make a  ‘Scrappy Trip Along’, too.

It occurred to me that the left overs from the strips would make a very interesting Jelly Roll Race quilt.  I'm saving them for it.

Or maybe my blocks will be a scrappy Bargello.

I was going to do these next week, but my husband was sleeping this afternoon so I decided to go ahead and make them today.  I'm sure that this will be my final effort this month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2013.  Now it's off to the 2 Civil War blocks and working on my Easy Street and Scrap Vomit.

It Happened Again

I had good intentions of watching the Craftsy "Repiecing the Past", with Kaye England video when I got home from my husband's doctors appointment, but instead I replenished my 2 1/2" scrappy squares and started 4 of the block b's for my SV quilt.   By that time DH was up from his long nap and we watched TV for awhile.  I again started watching the video on my ipad and fell asleep.   Oh well, I figured that I might as well finish my 4 blocks this morning, which I did.  I also sewed them into quadrant 3.  Only 8 more blocks to go and I'll be ready to put the quadrants all together and think about borders.

Another BOM and RSC - Pink

This is the January Block of the OKC Modern Quilters Guild I think that it was supposed to finish at 12.5 x 12.5, but I came up short on the sides and had to trim it to 12 x 12.  Oh well, I'll deal with it in the coming months when I see how I mess up then, lol.

I decided that it would be better to try to make 3 blocks a month for Angela's ScrapHappy Saturday, Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2013, so I added the block on the bottom.   That would yield 36 blocks and a 72 x 72 quilt to start with and I can go from there with borders.  Or I could go 5 x 7 and a 60 by 84 to start with.  I have almost a whole year to decide.

01-11-2013  While I was in the pink, I thought that it would be fun to do some little 16 patch blocks.  To me they are versatile blocks and hopefully, I'll come up with something rainbowy by the end of the year.
I know a lot of people don't like pink, but I've decided that pink makes me happy.
I'm still short one block that I hope to do this year, it's the Civil War quilt on Craftsy "Repiecing the Past", with Kaye England.  I have tried to watch the video 3 or 4 times now, she's very interesting, but she is very detailed.  I have tried to wait until after watching TV with my husband and then watch it on my Ipad.  Big mistake, I keep falling asleep.  Today, after DH's doctor appointment, maybe I'll watch it on my computer, get the block done, and then back to my Scrap Vomit and my Easy Street.  It would be nice to start the year off with two pretty new quilts for the beds in my home.
It's time again for Angela's ScrapHappy Saturday - Dresses in Pink Make Boys Wink - Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2013.  Go here to see more.

Sugar Block Club and Craftsy BOM 2012 and 2013

I'm trying to catch up everything while my Easy Street rests, and so this is my January Sugar Block Club BOM.  I plan on my colors being pale pink with polka dots background and red, blue and grey.  Hopefully, I'll stick to it, but there is always the possibility that it will be completely scrappy by the end of the year.

The plan is to remake the Craftsy BOM 2012 and add them to the Sugar Block club BOM to have a nice big queen sized quilt.  One month down.

This is the January 2013 Craftsy BOM - so far I'm thinking cheddar, green and brown, may add another color too, not sure yet.  The January block is 4 6" finished blocks.

ScrapHappy Saturday, Tickled Pink

I've put my Easy Street aside for now and am trying to catch up on a few other things.  These are for Angela's ScrapHappy Saturday, Tickled Pink.  I'm not sure how I'll do it, if I'll do all the blocks the same except for color, or do different blocks, but here are the first ones for the year.   I didn't really participate last year and I loved some of the colorful scrappy quilts, so this year I'm going to try to keep up.   Here's Angela's blog, and there is a linky, too.
