A Little More Progress......

A little progress for me, I have the back finished for my Christmas Strip Road, it looks more Christmasy in person.

(Sorry, I've tried and tried and I can't get rid of the gap, I guess Blogger is acting up.)

Quite a bit of progress for Tabitha. she has a couple of minor repairs to make, and then her final border, and she has her first quilt top. Not sure when she'll be back, but she is excited to see it finished so I think that she'll be trying to get back soon. She also wants to make bread, so that is on the agenda, too.

Quilting Lesson Number Two for Tabitha

Today I'm sure that I was the envy of many a "quilting lady". I got to give my granddaughter her second quilting lesson and spend the day with her. She came over early and since it had been between one year and two since her first lesson, we discovered that although we had figured that all her blocks were done, we were actually about 7 blocks short. To explain the gap I'll mention that she has had 2 or 3 jobs at a time since, or has been going to school and working a job in between. She most recently was juggling 3 jobs, working at two different Wendy's and a Cracker Barrel, and now is the "lazy" worker of only two, as she gave up one of the Wendy's jobs. This week, she is on vacation from her remaining two jobs, and is hoping by the end of the year to be down to only one job and back in college. She turned eighteen this
past June.
She started her labors by trimming her blocks and then cutting out the new blocks.

Then she assembly line sewed for an hour or two, and her grandpa came home from some errands and we decided that we needed a field trip. We went and had lunch out and visited with each other (in the South that means that we chatted), and then we went to BJ's and did a little shopping. I got two new towels, DGD got new red house slippers and DH got laundry detergent, lol.
When we returned home, it was back to the sewing machine, and then after awhile DH went to the chiropractor and we decided that after she had sewn the blocks into pairs and ironed the seams and had them ready for the next step that we would have an imprompto not very elegant tea party. Just as we sat down, guess who came in the door, so I got him a cup too.

Below, are five of the seven rows, I think she did a great job. Tomorrow, she will be back and hopefully we will get the top finished. I told her she had 3 choices for finishing, send it out to the LA'er, quilt it herself on my Juki, or tie it. She is leaning toward a poofy bat, and tying it.

By the way, the pattern is Yellow Brick Road.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone, we made it. The big day is finally here, and I'm almost ready for dinner and just about to go take my shower and get dressed.
Yesterday my DD and her boyfriend and his children and her youngest three went to Sea World, so DH and I picked up their pictures from Walmart. I don't think they'd mind if I share, the top one is his two girls, and the next 2 are my daughters children. I think the pictures turned out well.

I'm trying some recipes from various internet groups and blogs, and the picture below is my Hot Buttered Punch in the cooker and getting hot. I hope that it is good, if not we have other things to drink, but I thought that we'd try some new things this year.

Below is our table set and ready to go, there will only be seven of us, unless I get any surprises, so we can sit at one table and hopefully be more civilized.
I am having trouble with my camera (bummer), it isn't very old so hopefully I can find proof of purchase and send it off under warrenty. I take several pictures and only some transfer to the computer. I hope to take some today here and at my DD's house after we have dinner, and I hope that it holds out.
I'm off to get ready, and I hope that you all have a wonderful day today. Merry Christmas.

Freshman awards Day

This morning my DH and I got up early to attend the awards day for my 9th grade grandson, Caleb. We were met outside the auditorium by his friend Nicole, and we enjoyed the ceremony very much. He got a certificate for having between a 3.1 and 3.4 GPA, and we were very surprised when Nicole got a plaque for a 4.0. They had a Jazz Band that sounded very professional, and the Chorus also performed in formal dress. It was very nicely done, and we were very proud of our grandson. I think Caleb is smart, and very handsome, too.

Tabitha and the Penguin

I was afraid to add this to my previous post, so I'm giving it it's own. This is Tabitha petting the penguin. This one is 17 years old, just like her, she is the one standing. A dream come true for her, and aren't you just itching to get your hands on it, I am.

Orange Crush Step 5, New Fabric, DGD's B'day

I can finally say that I am caught up on the Orange Crush. I am savoring the moment. Now, I can finally join all those who are waiting for step 6. Yeah, me! Here they all are, and they are bright, when I had them up cropping them, it almost hurt my eyes. The fabric with it came today in the mail from Thousands of Bolts. I only ordered it Friday, they shipped it the same day, and it arrived today, can't get any quicker than that. I really like that store, the service and especially the prices. The fabric is for my border, you can't tell from the picture, but the orange floral's background just about matches the little patterns in the orange OC fabric perfectly. My backing is dark brown with sunflowers.
Today is one of my granddaughters birthdays, she turned 17. My daughter took the day off, and she and Tabitha, and two of her brothers went to Sea World. Tabitha loves penguins, and so today, she and my daughter and the boys got to pet three, a king, a rock hopper, and another one they couldn't remember the name for. It was a very exciting day for her. They took pictures, but just with their cell phones, if any came out decently, I will add them later.
Yeah me, and yeah Tabitha.
