Stash Vomit - 4/7 + Done (Note: Educational Post)

Who says that quilting isn't educational.  I was trying to find a less graphic name for my quilt, and who knew that the scientific term for vomiting is emesis, not me.   Not Blogger either, as it is marking it as mispelled.   Being raised in the mid 1900's (does that make me sound old or what, I feel like Little House on the Prairie) vomit was a no-no word in our family, so I was considering "Spew of Scraps" in honor of Wayne and Garth, they offended my mid-century rearing also, but I was fascinated in small doses.   Or maybe, to be more true to my raising, "Throwing Up Scraps".   Yeah, that's the ticket.
Anyway, now that I have the philosophizing out of my system (small things amuse small minds), I am 4/7th done plus 4 blocks or 32/49th done with my blocks.   It's getting pretty big.
I'm grateful to have gotten my "Throwing Up Scraps aka Scrap Vomit" obsession, as it has made the waiting for the Easy Street clues easier to be patient for.  Six weeks and I still have to correct myself each time, I want it to be called Easy Money.

Easy Street Part 6

We had an appointment today for a medical test for my husband, when we got there they couldn't do it as his levels weren't good enough.  I did stop by Joanns though and picked up 3 more white and blue fabrics to try to get  little more variety.  My husband has been sleeping since we got home, so I've been sewing and now step 6 is ready to go.

Hopefully, in a little while it will look like a work of art and not 'parts is parts' (from an old commercial).

Happy Purchase

I received an order from Marshall's Dry Goods yesterday.  I have used their batting for years and haven't found any better deals, and I have used their fabric before, some of which was a bit thin, so I was waiting rather nervously for this to arrive.  I got 12 yards for $37.83, regular price.  That works out to $3.16 a yard.   I'm very happy with my purchase, the fabric quality is fine with me.  The colors here are way off, the far left is 8 yards of light pink, the bandana fabric is really orange, and the middle fabric is grey.    I'm very happy and will be ordering more from them.  I got a bolt of the pink to use as a background for my BOM and Sugar Block Club with Amy Gibson.  Other than the background, it will be scrappy, pretty much anything goes.

Here are 4 blocks of my Scrap Vomit laid out ready to sew.  This will make 16 more when these are finished, so I'll have 32 of my 49 done.  Not a bad start.   I'll sew quadrant number two together and attach it to my quadrant number one and I'll be 4/7th done and have 4 blocks toward the next quadrant.   I'm moving right along on it.

First Quadrant Scrap Vomit

Here's plan A for my SV.  As you can see I have a very high tech method for quilt planning.   My Bottom right corner is in the box (pizza box) now, and unless I change my mind and go to another Plan B or C, this will be for one of my queen sized beds.  At this point a change in my mind could lead to anything from lap sized up.
I couldnt' get a good angle on this, but here are the first 16 blocks sewn together.  Not bad since I only started sewing on December 17th, about a week ago.
It helps that I'm semi housebound with my husband's illness.  Hopefully, that'll change and I won't get as much done.

Crisco Turkeys or Something Else?

I got to thinking as I was trimming and pressing, are these "fat in the can" turkeys, or little houses with mismatched roofs?  It is Easy "Street", after all.
I'm glad that Bonnie is keeping these steps simple.  I've started my Scrap Vomit (I know, not a pretty name) and it is giving competition to my Easy Street mystery.  Now this step is done, if all stays ok with my husband's health, I can work on SV for awhile.  I have 16 blocks done out of 49, and I've decided to work in sections instead of rows this time, so hopefully I'll have a section sewn together soon.
As usual, visit Bonnie here for more Easy Street progress reports.

Scrap Vomit Progress (I feel like washing my mouth with soap)

First nine blocks done, forty-one left to go if I stick to my original plan.  It's fairly relaxing making them, and no hurry so maybe I will.

Labels

I was just going to add these to the previous post, but my internet is acting horrible the last few days and I had to go to plan B.  I promise that these labels are really almost perfect rectangles, it is my photography that is poor.  These are what I spent several hours doing yesterday.  This is on my first Roll, Roll Cotton Boll, which we are giving to my husband's sister and her husband.  It is a very labor intensive quilt, I hope that they like it.

My granddaughter is probably the only family member who reads my blog more than once or twice a year, so I know that she will probably see this.  I thought about not posting it, but decided that it won't be a surprise, but hopefully it will still be something pleasant to look forward to.  She already knows that she's getting my Craftsy BOM, and I hope that she knows that the label means that even though she married into the family that she is our Granddaughter and very much loved.  She loves cats, but ones that she cares for aren't this skinny, lol.

First Scrap Vomit Block

Scrap Vomit isn't a very pretty name, but I think that it makes pretty quilts, and here is block A number one.   If I like making them I'll go ahead and make it to fit my bed, which will mean a total of 49 blocks, 25 A blocks and 24 B blocks.   Since the blocks should finish at 14" x 14", I'll probably do a border.  I have a queen sized bed and I like it to hang over more like a bedspread than a comforter or coverlet.   Here is "I'm a Ginger Monkey's" tutorial.  Here are her Scrap Vomit quilts so far.

Easy Street Part 4

When I went to get my EZ Angle ruler out I found a Quilt in a Day Flying Geese ruler that I have never used and forgot that I had.   Since I had done such a poor job on my previous flying geese I decided to give it a try.  I think my results were good, but it was more labor intensive.

Probably about half done here.   I think if we make more I'll go back to the EZ angle and just try to do a better job.

They are cute little things.  I was thinking while I was trimming that my father always said he'd been "where the wild goose goes" when he'd go off in the afternoon.  I don't think any of us ever found out where that was, maybe not even my mother, lol, but I think that if the geese show up well in the quilt mine won't be "Easy Street", it'll be "Where the Wild Goose Goes" for my father.   It's a shame that it's such girly colors, but I don't know that I enjoy making them enough to make another quilt with a lot of geese.

The browns look nice by themselves, hopefully they'll play nice with the yellows, pinks and blues.

They stacked up nicely.
All my parts so far.  I don't even try to imagine how it will go together as I don't doubt but what I'd be wrong.  I imagine from previous mysteries that some of this could go in the borders.  Hmmm, guess we'll know in a couple of weeks or so.
If you can't wait for step 5 and love seeing people's Easy Street progress, you'll want to go here and check out all the blog entries at Bonnie's Quiltville link-up.

How 'bout them DOGS!!!

Tabitha (my granddaughter) did the top almost by herself and due to her being in process of moving and working full time and Christmas being around the corner, I took it from there.  Here is her finished Georgia Bulldog quilt.  The recipient also likes camo and we needed 2 more fabrics for the pattern.  I like the additions.   It's the "Just Can't Cut it" pattern with a little adaptation due to my figuring error.  The camo blocks are only supposed to have 5 pieces, not 8, but I like it better this way and so does Tabbie.
Tabbie's friend obviously is a Georgia Bulldogs fan and they are rivals of the Florida Gators.  Tabbie's stepfather is an avid Gator fan and Tabbie and her friend are going to her mom's house for Christmas.   I'm hoping that Tabbie gives the quilt to her over there, it should make for some good natured ribbing and then Ernie (two Ernie's in the family, my husband and my son-in-law) can drag out his Gator quilt, lol.
(Sorry about the laundry, at least it was clean and folded.)

BeeA is a nickname from childhood, due to another child in the family who couldn't speak correctly, and it stuck.  The back is a sheet from Landsend.  I know a lot of quilters wouldn't think of using sheets, but I like the 200 count ones and they are a lot cheaper than similar amounts of quilting cottons.   The ones from Landsend feel luxurious and are a bargain when on sale.   Target has nice ones too, and I have gotten them on sale in the 3 and 4 dollar range.  Pretty good price for a quilt back and they are 100% cotton.
