Leader Enders Quilt Top

I finished my top this morning, and also the binding.  Just need to embroider the name on the back, press the backing and it is ready for basting.  Only problem, I'm out of batting so it will have to wait til I get some.  Meanwhile, the first clue for Bonnie's mystery Roll Roll Cotton Bowl came out last night, so I need to get to that, but it may be tomorrow as I have a grandson coming over this evening to entertain a young lady that he has liked for quite awhile.  It's her birthday and we will be one of their visits.

New Project with Leaders and Enders

Not very fancy, but I'm making a lap quilt from my Leader and Ender sixteen patch blocks.  I think that it will finish up at about 60 x 76, so a nice couch quilt size.  This is just 9 of the 48 blocks hanging out on my design wall while I finish the other four patch blocks.  They are all cut out, sewn and ready to be framed.   

 

This is the border fabric that I have ordered from Thousands of Bolts.  I've always been satisfied with the fabrics I've gotten from them, and hopefully this will be no different.  It should be a very feminine quilt.

Fabrics for Roll Roll Cotton Boll mystery

Yesterday I purchased some fabrics for Bonnie Hunter's new mystery "Roll Roll Cotton Boll", and today I pulled some fabrics.  The plastic bags on the bottom of each stack are really scrappy scraps, and the rest is fat quarters and yardage.  I had to rob Tobacco Road and Double Delight, previous mysteries from Bonnie, but I'll worry about that later.  I also robbed my little stash of Thimbleberries.  Actually not so much a stash, I had bought some scraps (too beautiful to be called scraps, perfect eighth of a yards) from Keepsake Quilting and am hoping to get more and make a bargello from them.  I feel like it is always fun to participate when everyone is in the thick of it so that decided my priority.  Now, I just have to wait for the first clue on November 19th.
Do you think that raspberry is shouting at the other pinks?  Bonnie said raspberry pinks, but I think that one may have too much raspberry.  It may not make it into the quilt.

ALS - Piece by Piece and Shopping for Mystery

My mother passed away April 10, 2008 from ALS - Lou Gehrig's disease.   I got an email from the ALS Association that the ALS - Piece by Piece exhibit was going to be in a nearby city, about 40 miles away, today. 

    The ALS Association Florida Chapter invites you to experience our Piece by Piece Tribute Display in remembrance of those lives taken by this dreaded disease. This exhibit features hundreds of mannequins, each shrouded with individual epitaphs, symbolizing a fellow Floridian whose life has been stolen from their loved ones. Its purpose is to pay tribute and evoke personal reflection on the devastating numbers of those currently suffering. We hope you can share this powerful experience with us this week as the display visits both Tarpon Springs and Ocala.

 DH and I were able to go and it was very moving and so sad.

Ocala is famous for being good for horses and these beautiful pieces of art were all around the town square where the Piece to Piece exhibit was displayed.

I got a bit of DH in this one.  I also got another with more of him, but he was bending over and from the rear, so I figured I might be in the doghouse if I shared it, lol.

Bonnie Hunter's new mystery is starting this month, first clue on the 19th I believe, and I plan to go with her colors.   There are at least two quilt stores in Ocala so I thought I'd visit the one that was a dealer for Berninas.   Next time I'll visit the other one, it carries longarms and even though I'm not in the market I'd like to look.  The new mystery is called Roll Roll Cotton Boll and her colors (and mine) are going to be chocolate browns, double pinks and raspberries, grassy greens, neutrals and red.  These fabrics were my purchase, and they were half price.  I love sale fabrics even if they aren't the latest, they are new to me and I like the price.

Table Toppers

 My pumpkin table topper is done.  Supposed to have leaves and stems, but I left them off, I think I like it a lot anyway though.   I decided to make it reversible so that after November I can just flip it over for Christmas so I made a pieced back and then I had enough of that left to make a small runner.   With me things always seem to mushroom, I guess I'm one of those if a little is good more is better type of people.                                                                          

Next up is two fleece blankets and two flannel pillowcases for my niece.  Every time that I think I'm catching up I think of more things that I need to do, I'm really on a finish it up kick right now.  I have my two Paintbox quilts, my monster Iowa (Carolina) Christmas, I've decided that I need to do a quilt from my leaders and enders 16 patches for someone who was kind enough to admire my blog (lol), and it goes on and on.   I also feel that I 'need' to do Bonnie Hunter's new mystery.   Why don't I feel like my list is getting shorter, even though I know it is?

Paintbox Quilt Again

Here we go again, I just finished a very witty (ok, if you've read my blog before, maybe not real witty) blog entry about my future plans with lots of links and I was really very pleased with it.   When I finished, I made a tactical error and so now I'll just say that a soon project will be to finish my paintbox quilt.   I think that I may have also permanently deleted my signature.  Is it just me, or are the blogger changes a bit challenging.

Two More Finished

This is the last manly quilt (4 out of 4) finished for my grandson Jacob.  Now to get them delivered, the house back to where I don't mind living here, and then on to my pumpkin table mats.   I'm going to use this pattern, but am going to be lazy and probably skip the leaves and stems.  I think they will still be cute.

This is one of the quilts that looks pretty good if you own a horse to gallop by it on (not my best quilting ever).  It is finished, and hopefully DGD will be happy.   The heart at the bottom was my sad little attempt at shabby chic and to cover up a fraying seam. 

The four fabrics on the left are for the pumpkins the middle is the background,  the stripe is the narrow border, and the large print below with the black background is the wide border.  I think I have enough fabric for about 3 of them.  A quick and easy project, especially using my lazy way.
Between blogger and my ignorance of its new rules, we can make a 20 minute job last 2 hours easily.

Manly Quilts #2 and #3 Finished and Shop Hop

 These are for my brother in Jacksonville and his son.  They are both dedicated fishermen so the borders on both have fish and the little sub-borders at the top and bottom of each quilt have the others border fabric.   The top one is my brothers.  DH and I are driving to Gainesville about 2 hours away or so on Monday to meet both my brothers and deliver these.  My Georgia brother already has his and loves it, and he will just be coming along for the company and so we can see each other.  It has been since the spring since we have gotten together.















DH and I went on a shop hop the other day, a different one than we had been on before and much more stressful as so much of it was in dense traffic.  The little snowman panel above is one of eight that you received at each shop, I'll eventually make a quilt or table runners or something with them.   The fat quarters and charm pack were at various shops and just because, except for the one that looks like bricks.  I hope to use it when I eventually get to a trees wall-hanging from this tutorial from Joanna of Applique Today.  She does a lot of cute things on her blog. 
The fabrics below were from a shop that I used to visit a lot over twenty years ago, I haven't been in probably ten years and it had hardly changed except they used to carry Bernina and Singer, and now they carry Babylock and Brother.    The fabrics that I purchased were half price and if I had been in the money I would have been tempted to get more.   No particular plans except for the Lady Liberty, unless I can work them into Bonnie Hunter's new mystery in November.   Last shop hop I had gotten some red and blue fabrics for this flag tutorial from Lola and her blog "and Sew On".   It is still on my list of to do's and I thought Lady Liberty might fit right in.
The bottom picture is fabric from the $5.00 rack at my local quilt store, again no particular plans for them at this time.  
One happy surprise at the last shop was they are a Juki dealer.   My Juki is a couple years old now, and it's nice to know that I have a place for service and parts and such.   I spent too much money, but I did learn something, lol.
