Sandhill Cranes and Scrappy Star Struck

Yesterday we got quite a rain and when we got home there were 7 sandhill cranes enjoying the puddles in the pasture behind our house.

The last big storm had some wind and you can see the dirt where the trees were, and behind the living tree you can see where they bulldozed the dead trees.

Sometimes it's hard to see where one starts and the other ends.  I think there are 3 in this picture.

The first 9 blocks of my Scrappy Star Struck.  Unfortunately, I think some of my lights are too dark and some of my darks are too light, but I'll persevere and I don't think I'll mind too much in the end, it is scrappy after all.  I need to find more scraps and cut more though, next time I'll know that when you use the chisel die on the accuquilt for this quilt you need to cut all the fabrics the same.  No folding them right sides together and then cutting, I have a pile of chisels that won't fit in as they are cut wrong.  I'll find something else to use them for though, so not a big problem.

That red really makes the quilt pop! I had a scrappy one where some lights were too dark and vice versa..... I think it still came out great! Variety is the spice of life after all. Your lattice quilt is lovely a few posts back. Very 'old' looking which I love.

Hi Candace, I see what you mean-but the stars pop out! I think it fits the name Scrappy Star Stuck perfectly.

I won a Baby GO and still have not taken it out of the box to try it. I ordered dies and cutting board. Another thing I want to accomplish this summer.

What a wonderful sight those cranes must be. I did the same thing with some chisel shaped blocks once, but it's the sort of thing that you learn from.

Thanks for sharing your "lesson learned." As far as lights/darks too dark/light...... they all look great, and in the big picture, they will fit the pattern as intended to be: scrappy :)
Looking great so far! Great use of reds.

I think you have nice contrast between the lights and darks. The consistent red really pops. Love you Sandhill Cranes. We rarely get them in such large groups around here. Usually just one family grouping at a time.
