Amy's BOM a Lot Late - Giveaway Win

Better late than never.  These are last years May blocks from Amy's BOM.  I am not going to do all the blocks at this time, but I am doing enough to make my version of Linda from Living4Quiltings pretty flimsy.
Block #2 "Follow the Leader"
Block #3 "Ohio Star"
Block #1 "Road to the White House"
My DGS moved into a new apartment, works at Publix, so he needs ironed dress shirts daily and he didn't have an iron.   I gave him mine which was pretty new, but I had never been really pleased with it because it didn't seem to be hot enough even when set to linen.  I got this non steam iron from Vermont Country Store and boy does it get hot.  I had to set it back to cotton.  I've only used it a few times, but I think I'm really going to like it.
And best of all, I won Anita from BedofRosesMQ's giveaway.   Bonnie's book is just as good as I expected with lots of information and gorgeous quilts.  Now I have all three, yea!  Thank you so much Anita for your generous gift.

Giveaway!

If you haven't gotten your copy yet (I haven't and hope to win this one) and would like to enter a fun giveaway form BedofRosesMq, Anita has an extra one to give away to a lucky winner.   You can enter until next Friday the 25th, so there's still plenty of time.   Good luck, if I don't win I hope you do.

Giveaway Goodies

The other day I received my package from Eileen at My Quilting Porch. I have enjoyed her blog almost from the time that I discovered blogs, and I was very excited to win her giveaway. The fat little round bag is chock full of 30's goodies, and the flat bag below it has pieces all cut up and ready to go. I can't wait to get them on my design wall. A very nice bonus was the 2 patterns, and the quilter's template for 60 degree diamonds. A very nice mail day indeed. Thank you so much, Eileen. I see a new tablerunner in my near future.

Giveaway and Sand Cranes

Jo from 'Home Sweet Home' is having a 100th post giveaway, and her question is, "what are three crafty things you can't live without". Very thought provoking and hard to narrow down three, but I came up with my machines, my iron, and my rotary cutting tools. What are yours? If you go to Jo's blog and let her know and post it on your blog, you'll be entered in her giveaway and you'll also be able to congratulate her on her wonderful blog.

If you follow my blog you probably already are aware that I love the Sand Cranes. I was very excited yesterday to have five in the field behind my house, and it was like they waited for me to get my camera, and then they stayed there as long as I liked to have their pictures taken. Notice the cow watching in the background, that can give you an idea of how big the birds are, they are really tall, and I think that they are beautiful with their red heads.
I got to spend the afternoon yesterday with my DD, we went to Ikea, it was her first time, and she couldn't believe how big the store is. I told her it was like 2 Targets. We didn't make any major purchases, but got a few little good deals. I got a new chair for my sewing room and after I get it put together I'll take a picture of old and new, and you'll see why I needed a new one. After we walked and walked for about 2 hours or so we went to Bahama Breeze, my favorite restaurant and had a really nice splurge. We had the Roasted Cuban bread, which is toasty bread with sweet tomatoes and basil on top, then a fruit cup with I believe mango sorbet, and shared the lobster, shrimp pasta. It was more than enough for both of us, and truly did have shrimp and big pieces of lobster in every bite. It was a very nice day with my daughter and we both enjoyed the time together.

Turning Twenty (12) 4 X 4 and Giveaway

This is the result of my leftover 8 blocks to Turning Twisting Twenty (12). I added 4 more blocks which were mostly pink and brown, and used another variation, the Turning Twenty 4 X 4. It is like a Disappearing Nine Patch, but with the Turning Twenty block. The colors aren't real true, the border is a pink paisley with a lot of green. Next on the agenda is basting and quilting the 4 tops that I have finished. I'm hoping by the end I'll be an ok if not accomplished free motion quilter. We can all dream. Of course, I am really good at procrastinating and I also have Thanksgiving dinner to worry about, so I may be a little slow in the doing.
My DH is getting a new computer for his Christmas present, and don't you know that it was due to get here the day we left on our little mini vacation. It all worked out though, as my daughter, who we were taking with us, got sick and the trip got cancelled for now. She just has a cold, but DH has a low immune system, and we didn't want to take the chance of him catching it. He keeps them forever and gets sicker than most people. Maybe next year. After all the stress of what are we to do, the computer came today, a day early. I hope that he likes it, it is Vista and neither of us are familiar with it. We did get a book yesterday, and hopefully all will be well.

P.S. Christine of Once upon a Quilt.... is having a one year giveaway check out her blog.

I Won a Giveaway

Recently, I won second place in Lyn's (Welcome to Bluebird Quilts, My Quilting Journey) "Fall into Fall Quilter's Blog Giveaway". It was so exciting to receive mail all the way from Australia, and as you can see she made it even more exciting by having everything wrapped individually in really nice heavy crinkly cellophane paper. The orange that the gifts are sitting on is more of the same cellophane that was on the bottom and top of the box.

Opening each gift was really fun, and as you can see there is quite a variety of quilty, crafty things. The pumpkin is so charming and seasonal, and will of course have a place of honor from now on in my fall and Thanksgiving decor. There was also DMC floss, fabric, buttons, a wonderful book with colorful pictures on creating stars, and a little cinnamon bunch and birdhouse which will be displayed, and then will end up on my Christmas tree. I love the homey folksy decorations.

Giveaway and Award and New Blogger

The charming picture is a picture of the giveaway prize from Raggedy Angel's giveaway celebrating her birthday and her 50th post. It is very unique, and just my style. I hope you win almost as much as I hope that I win.

"Megan decided to create a new award. "Something to honor any blogger who crafts, sews, quilts - you know, makes stuff - no matter how crappy (or how good). A way to say - I like your blog, like your stuff, and I'm pretty sure you have a good sense of humor."
"Her creation was... "I love your ugly mug" Award! In her words: "Now, all the lovely people whom I have had the pleasure to meet through this humble blog are all very talented and not the least bit ugly, but I am sure they will all take this award in the spirit intended." The recipients are supposed to pass it on, but only HAVE to pick 3 people to give it to. :)Here are my choices for their wonderful crafts, sewing, quilting, and for the Wonderful people that they are!!
Linda from Just a Quiet Place to Be nominated me, and it is a nomination that I am comfortable with. I like my quilts, and other crafts that I try, and I don't have false modesty about them, but I know that they are not masterpieces, they are for using, and that's ok with me. I love the masterpieces, but I don't have the skills or patience or desire, and this is a comfy award. I'm not real comfortable with superlatives, and this award takes in the full range bad to good in a humerous way. The hard part is trying to narrow it down to 3 nominees, and since I haven't been able to do it, I am taking the chicken way out, and nominating any and all of the wonderful people who read my blog. Let's support Megan, and if you read this please consider yourself a winner of the "I love your ugly mug" award and either nominate 3 others, or if you are chicken and indecisive like me, nominate everyone.

P.S. I changed my mind (it's ok, I'm a woman) I am going to nominate one person for the award. She has a brand new blog as of today, but I know from exchanging emails with her for the past few months that she meets all the criteria of the award, and that her blog is going to be one of everyone's favorites. Her name is Billye and here is her blog. I hope you'll add the award proudly to your blog, Billye.

Wonderful Gift

I was the very lucky winner of one of Linda's three prizes for her 100th post giveaway. Linda's blog is Living4Quilting, if you haven't visited it is an excellent Blog.
As you can see I received a beautiful array of goodies. First and foremost is the adorable little kitty pin cushion, and then there are quilting postcards and quilting notecards which I will enjoy using. There is a beautiful little Moda sewing kit holder for needles and such, a binding miter tool, which I'm sure will improve my corners, some binding hem clips which will come in very handy, a very charming set of vintage notions which includes a pin cushion and threader, and last but not least a fat quarter to add to my small collection. It's blue and white, so will come in very handy as I use blue a lot. It is amazing that with all the surprises, none are duplicates of what I already had. Thank you Linda, you made my day.

Giveaways

There are two bags being given away, and I wanted to share pictures with you, but blogger is not cooperating, so I'll give you links instead.
Lurline of Lurline's Place is giving away a Cathedral Window Bag for her 100th blog and if you follow her blog, you know that everything she makes is lovely. Also Bonnie of Calamity Janes Cottage is celebrating "Getting Ready for Fall", and has an adorable bag to giveaway. It is very fallish, and has a cute Halloween button as the catch. Good Luck.
Add one more 100th post blog to the list. Amanda of Amanda's Musings. Hers is still a mystery, but it sounds like it is going to be handcrafted. If you are familiar with Amanda's blog, you know she is always working on beautiful stitchery, bags and quilts.
Wow, I can't believe it I just found another one. This is a new blog to me, but it is celebrating '200' posts. Debi of Quilting With Debi is giving away charm packs, essential thread, and a quilting book. This is a great week for giveaways.

Giveaway Drawing and Prize

I waited until this morning for the giveaway drawing, just to allow for all the different time zones. Then I had to wait for DH to get up, as he sometimes sleeps in, and then even before he was showered and dressed we did it, that is why all that is showing is his hand, he was a little uncomfortable about being on the internet in his jammies. He picked number 23 Carol VR, who's from Canada, and whose blog is a new one to me. That was one of the nice things about having the giveaway, discovering new to me bloggers. Her blog is No Reason Needed, if you'd like to have a look.

I didn't make anything, but I hope she likes her gifts. There are several fat quarters and some thread from Connecting Threads, a charm pack in a tin from Hancock's of Padukah from a few years ago, I had bought several. All the things needed to wear scissors around your neck so that they don't get lost, the necklace the retracto reel and the scissors which are also seam rippers. I have some and like them a lot, as they are snips and also ready in case there was a boo-boo (not the ouch kind the rip-it kind). And last but not least, a little wooden birdhouse (I had gotten 4 of them and am down to 1, which I think will be for me), and a tiny bone china bowl from Old Country Roses, which would be great as a little pin dish, or even for holding jewelry that you take off in the evening.
Thank you to everyone who left a comment and also to those who put the link on their blogs. You are all wonderful, and I wish I could give everyone a prize.
