NCW - Necessary Clutch Wallet

I've been busy of late making NCW's.  Probably for Christmas presents.  They are a bit challenging, but kind of fun - lots and lots of fusing interfacing, the pattern is by emmalinebags Janelle MacKay,  and I've gotten lots of help from youtube videos by Jean the Jelly Roll Queen, Debby Hunker, Mel Euhus NCW addicts (from Facebook), Lauren Mormino and  Kittenish Behavior.  It looks like there are lots more to watch, too.  This one with the cranes is number 1.

This butterfly one is number 2.  They all seem to have something in common, I can't seem to contain my scrappy Gypsy soul.

These are 3 and 4.  

and these are 3 thru 6.  They are all done, except I still have 2 cross-body neck straps to do.

I am gathering supplies for numbers 7 and 8 for me.  I have been saving Fairy Frost, my favorite fabric, and  with the addition of a couple of metallic prints (again, my shiny Gypsy soul) I'll be ready to use some.  I hope to avoid some of the multitude of errors I've made on the first 6.

More Tablecloth, Puppy, and add Snap Pouches

I finished my reversible tablecloth and I'm happy with it, in spite of my wilder than desired flag.

I think I like this side best with the kitties.  The flag pattern and this kittie is from Jenny at Missouri Star Quilt Company, but I added the borders, etc on each.

How it looks in use.  I know it's tacky, but the plastic keeps it clean.

One little dog takes a lot of paraphernalia.  Our bigger dogs could pretty much stay in one spot, but she was here there and everywhere in the car, in spite of seat belts, etc.

We got the crate because as she's a rescue from a puppy mill, we thought it might make her feel more secure, but so far she only goes in to retrieve food if we put it in there.

We got the stroller because she's small and might get stepped on, but also she is aggressive if she gets afraid, and we don't want her to bite anyone.  Even that tiny mouth and little teeth can put a hurting on you if she is able to get a grip.

This was another attempt at making her happy when in the car, and also to keep her safe at the vet's.  Some of the big dogs that come in muzzled, don't stay that way, and she would be easy prey.

She liked to lay on a pillow beside my rocking recliner, and I was afraid she might get rocked on, either a head or leg, so I got a little wooden crate from Lowe's, removed a slat on one side, spray painted it, and now she's still happy, but not in danger of a mushed head.

All that for one little dog.  I think we have it covered now.  

When I made the Kittie side of my tablecloth I prepared 2 1/2" strips and I way overdid.  I had enough left to make 28 of these scrappy centers.  I made 4 each of these 2 colors.  

A friend gave me a bag of fabric, so as a thank you, I decided to make her some placemats.

This is the back.  I got the yellow and this fabric from Hobby Lobby, it was half price and from Michael Miller.  I liked that it is happy, but subdued.  They had other combinations, but they were more spring or Easter.  These I think are pretty much year round.

I have a helper to give me assistance with my sewing now.

Her husband had the pouch with the money and it is wearing out.  On a recent trip to New Orleans, they got fabric (quite a bit) to make new ones.  This is my prototype, still waiting to hear if he likes it.

Puppies and Tablecloths

My husband recently had pneumonia and because of that and previous issues he’s on oxygen 24/7 now. He has about 45 feet of tubing so that he can move around in the house, and because of that and his unsteadiness our dog was a problem for him through no fault of her own.  She is back with my niece and still happy and loved.  She is almost 40 pounds and we thought maybe a small dog would be less scary for my husband. I looked at adoptapet online and there was a toy Aussie who was my sweet Callie’s Mini-me.  Only 12 pounds.  I checked into it and about 2 weeks ago we adopted her from the rescue. She was from a puppy mill,so she has some issues.  She’s super sweet to my daughter and I, but can be aggressive to everyone else.  She’s mostly house trained and pretty well behaved.  She needs work, but is improving.

Callie, is a standard Australian Shepherd, and Sunday, is a toy Australian Shepherd, 5 years old.

As far as sewing goes, I haven't accomplished much.  I decided that I'd make a reversible tablecloth for my kitchen table, and this, with it's added borders will be one side.  I have  3 more borders to do.

This will be the other side, so I'll have summer and fall.  I will add about 10 inches all around to this and I've decided to do a scrappy log cabin style.  Just haven't decided if I'll do scrappy as far as leaving the colors all together or separate the colors and  do a side of each around the center.  The table is about 30 x 48 inches and I think that I'll use flannel for my batting.

A Purse, a Quilt and a Pincushion

I decided I wanted a velcro closure, so I gave my original wallet from SewCanShe's blog to my daughter, and made myself another, a little larger than the first.  (Room for glasses, chapstick, a pen, etc., in addition to my iphone 7 plus)

I had 110 of these blocks cut out, and decided to use just 90 of them for our bed quilt, so that left 20.  I had an abundance of blue, so I used them for a quilt for the back of my husband's chair.  I used batting and fleece on his as he gets very cold, so his should be toasty.

Not my first choice for a backing, as I was hoping for Red Sox and something with blue in it, but this was the best I could do.  

And, I almost forgot.  I bought this kit for a color wheel pin cushion a few years ago and decided I needed to get it done.  The top hole is a little large, and the button kind of slides into it, so I'm going to get a larger one and glue it on.  Hurray for E6000.  I'll be sharing with ShowOffSaturday on SewCanShe's blog.

Slow Week

Not too much to show this week, this was my only finish.  It's my larger version of SewCanShe's cell phone wallet with benefits.  Due to my larger phone, iphone 7 plus, I had to increase the measurements on the wallet, I kind of overdid it, but I didn't mind. 
Also, I'll be sharing again on her Show Off Saturday.

The reason I didn't mind it ending up a little over big, is it gives me room for my reading glasses, which I need to read my cell phone.

The larger size also allowed me to carry 4 cards, vertically, not horizontally.  I based mine on 8 x 6 1/2 instead of the original size.

A few years ago I made this quilt, which I loved, but I gave it to some friend's who visited intending to replace it for myself.  

This week, I dug it out and worked on it some more.  I had about 120 done, and now I have 200.  It will take about 380, which will turn into 95 blocks when the segments are sewn 4 together into blocks.  This quilt is from a tutorial on MaDan's Quilting.  She calls it 5" charm scrappy, I call it scrappy lattice.  

Junk Rat, From Computer Game

My first time doing pictures from the freezer paper in the printer.  Not as vibrant as I would have hoped, but not too bad.  I hope they wash ok, I guess time will tell.

I actually have a small quilt to share this week, I made it from the freezer paper pictures.  It's about 38 x 58 and made mostly with scraps.  Junk Rat, Overwatch, not my favorite.  He made a special request several months ago, kind of whispered, since his mother was there.  I asked her to ask him if he remembered.......

The Marvel super heroes for the back.

More things for the great grands.  Pillows for the little ones and pouches for the bigger ones.

This is for a little boy that my granddaughter-in-law babysits.  All the kids got one, except the babies who got little pillows.  They are soft and squishy, as I used leftover fleece instead of batting or interfacing.

My daughter went to visit the Georgia relatives and took one of her Florida
Granddaughters with her.  She got fun things to do on the drive up and was very good.  They are visiting and also delivering the gifts that I made.

Our dog is staying with my niece until my husband is stronger and not as apt to be knocked over.  She sort of went home, as my niece had her for her first 4 years.  We met my brother halfway and he brought her so that we could spend some time.  It was so good of him.

I don't always sleep well, and since my husband got up to watch his Red Sox, I decided to make a pouch for my daughter-in-law in Mexico, about 2:00am last night.  I ordered her a yellow kindle fire and  thought it'd be nice to have a pouch to protect it and carry it in.  I measured my kindle and  added about  1.5 to 2 inches extra.  I used the foam interfacing,  When I finished I took my kindle out of it's case and tried to put it in the yellow pouch.  Oops, too small.  I decided I'd make another and added about another 2 inches to be sure, too big.  I added a couple of snaps to keep the fire down and since I was out of the foam used 2 layers of cotton batting.  Then, I realized that I had ordered her kindle fire an inch smaller than mine, so the small one might fit after all.  Have to wait until Sunday when it's delivered to find out .  I finished the two pouches about 6am.
