Rainbow Scrap Challenge May - Bright or Dark Blue

I've been trying very hard to catch up with my RSC and BOM's.   This week does it for my RSC although, I may do a collage for the last week.  This is the first month that I didn't have any duplicate fabrics for the Rainbow Scrappy Trip Along, but I did have to resort to cutting a few strips from stash.
My 16 patches, 4 1/2 inch 9 patches, and 6 inch 9 patches.

Table topper for my dresser, the color here is more true than below on my dresser.   The whites are white, not cream.  The reverse is rather cute Christmas, you can see it here if you like.

I am enjoying it on my dresser.  All my quilted and scrappy table toppers, runners and tablecloth seem to be getting comments from visitors, and I don't think that they are always positive, but I like them and my husband doesn't object, so it's ok.  They can do their house how they like and I'll do mine how I like, and I like quilts, large and small.   I've seen comments on forums about "Would Visitors Know if a Quilter Lived at Your House", and it amazes me that some people don't keep any for themselves, and don't have any displayed or even on their beds.  I do, I do, and I do, and I will have more before the end of the year.

Snowball and 9 patches.  I think maybe I should have raided my stash a little on these and stuck with either dark or light frames, but maybe it will look nice in the finished product.
My mini Stacked Blox has at least a temporary home.  I don't think it is technically RSC, but it was made from leftovers from a larger quilt, so maybe.   Anyway, except for my kaleidoscope, which I made in error in an earlier month, and my 2 1/2 inch scrap strips for my RSC Jelly Roll Race, that's it for the month.   Now it's on to catching up on my BOM"S.  I have April and May to do on my Sugar Block Club, Craftsy 2012 BOM, OKC Modern Block, and Craftsy 2013 BOM, and May on my Craftsy Civil War BOM.   It's sad, I feel an urgency to hurry because I can't wait to start the Quilty Barn Along from Bee in My Bonnet, and the Deck-Ade the Halls from the Fat Quarter Shop.  I also loved the In From The Cold Hot Cocoa pattern from UnitedNotions, but since there are mugs on the Deck-Ade the Halls I'm opting to put Hot Cocoa on my someday list.  If you'd like to see more Blue Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects, go here on Saturday, Angela's Soscrappy will have lots of linkups.
Sorry about all the links, but it keeps me from having to look things up and it gives credit to those who have shared.

I had a gift card left from Christmas and so we stopped by Joann's today.  My RSC had overgrown the top container last month and with May's added, there was no way that the top was going to close.  I got the new container with my gift card and a 50% off coupon.  regularly 29.95, and then I got 1 1/2 yards of Christmas fabric for my Deck-Ade the Halls inner border and binding, regularly 6.95 a yard.   With those and a box of Good N Plenty's, I still have $2.88 on the card.  Not too bad.  I think the new container will hold all the way until the end of the year.

Disappearing Pinwheel

I had good intentions of working on my Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects, and then I ran across this:   http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutorials-f10/my-pinwheel-disappearing-4-patch-using-charm-packs-t68180.html   A tutorial on the disappearing pinwheel.  I had to try it, so I decided that I haven't done a table topper for this months color, and it would be the first month that I hadn't, so I dug out my scraps and this is what I came up with.  Now I have to find a table or maybe a dresser that I want to use it on, decide if I need sashing or borders, depending on the size, and decide on a color for the back and make up another strippie, and I'll be on my way to another small finish.
PS   I started out with four patches made from 6 1/2 inch blocks (6 inch finished) and ended up with 10 3/4 inch blocks (10 1/4 inch finished).

Green RSC Kaleidoscoope, Etc.

04/12/2013
Since I finished 2 table runners and a table topper, I linked up with crazy mom quilts Finish it up Friday here.
My six inch nine patches.
They look the same in the picture, but these are four and a half inch nine patches.
Sixteen patches.
I can't seem to stop Picasa from assigning weird dates.  I actually finished this table runner 040913.  Green scraps in the side on the left, so I figure it's part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.
This was actually finished 040713?  Again one side has green scraps.  They are not really out of shape, it's my photography.
And I almost forgot this green finished 0410.  My Rainbow Scrappy Tripalong, or Bargello?  I'm kind of liking this Tripalong though.
And here, last but not least, my snowballs and nine patches.  Sorry, this whole post is out of chronological order.  I kept adding things to get everything in one post.
04/11/2013
I tried not pressing my block until the end, but my center isn't too good on this one.  I pressed my bonus block as I went, and the center is better.
My crazy bonus block.

I don't know about my expected company, when they will come, so I'm trying to finish everything as my focus will change to cleaning and cooking when I know they're coming.  I just have one more RSC project and I'll be doing it asap (it's done, my snowball and nine patches).  I also have quilts my brother has asked me to do for him as gifts for friends that are a priority.
If you'd like to see lots more green, it won't fatten your wallet, but you can visit Angela at Soscrappy here .

And my last hurrah for April RSC.  Top Row: Scrappy Trip Along, Table Runner, 4 1/2 inch 9 patches.  Second Row: Rainbow Jelly Roll Race, Snowballs and 9 patches.  Bottom Row: Table Runner, Kitty Table Topper, Kaleidoscope blocks, 6 Inch 9 Patches and 16 Patches.

Last One, At Least for Now

My coffee table runner is finished.  Tomorrow, I'm hoping to get my living room cleaned up and put all my table toppers and table runner to use.  About 20 by 48 inches.
PS  I was just thinking that this would make a nice door banner for the Fourth of July.  Maybe, next year.

The reverse.  Spring Wonky Strippie.  I was going to make a green and a purple.  Then I thought why not combine them and use the green part for RSC.  I really wanted the blue binding for the flag, so I decided why not green, purple and blue.  It's still springy, at least I hope so.

My finishes of the past few days.  Not bad, plus I used up a bunch of scraps of fabric and batting.

April Rainbow Scrap Challenge and Hiddenwells Goof Up

This is what a hiddenwells looks like when the blocks are put together wrong, oops.  I don't feel too bad though, it will be mostly covered up with a lamp and knick-knacks.  This one is only about 21 by 21 inches.

And the reverse side.  I didn't do as well as I would have liked centering it, but I promise, it is square, although it doesn't look like it here.   This side fits right into Angela's Soscrappy, which you can visit here to see lots of green, as it is the Rainbow Scrap Challenge color for April.

Since I made my hiddenwells smaller, I got 5 cuts out of each stripset instead of the usual 4.  With the leftovers I decided to make mug rugs.  These are only about 5 by 9 or so.  These are the first mug rugs that I've made, I always wonder if they are actually useful.  I wonder if anyone really uses them.  I made 2 and this is the front and the back.   I can do better when I take time, but these were hurry up jobs.

Catching up Kaleidoscope Blocks for RSC and Mistake

Since I got the urge to do kaleidoscope blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, I had to catch up January pink and February purple.  So far so good.

Then as I was sewing on the last strip in the stripset I realized that the stupid that seems to have overtaken me since DH came home had struck again.  This doesn't look like purple.  Oh well, I'll have it done when we get to blue.

Here is my required purple.
Each time I've done the strip sets I've had some extras, so here is bonus block number one.
And bonus block number two.  I''m sure that by the end I will have had all manor of strange blocks.

And here are the first 3 months, plus blue in advance and my two bonus blocks.   Quite colorful if I do say.

And March's contribution to my Jelly Roll quilt which will be put together at the end unless I decide to start doing my long long strip before that, I just may.

The orange nine patches were a mistake when I was making the snowball and nine patches for the RSC.
having some type of mental illness which doesn't allow me to let well enough alone I had to back track on these also and do the January pink and February purples.  I hope that I don't make anymore mistakes, I think I'm getting out of hand.
I was just thinking I'll probably use this post in the next Saturday link-up for RSC and if you'd like to see the other orange that I did between last Saturday and next Saturday, go here.
And if you'd like to see what others have been doing with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge that Angela provides for us, go here.
Meanwhile, I did the last 8 of my 49  Throwing up Scraps (Scrap Vomit) blocks and I'm in process of preparing borders.  I have 100 4 patches to do and then I'll attach them and see how the finished flimsy fits on my queen sized bed.

Last Orange? Also, Learned Something New!

It's getting harder to find enough orange to go around.

Maybe, this is part of the reason.  First, I made my 9 patches too big.  I wasn't thinking and since I usually use 2 1/2 inch squares, I just automatically did it again, and didn't realize (how did I miss it) until I actually finished one.   Then to make sure that I fixed it 'good' I got in my mind 4 blocks instead of 3 and made an extra 2 nine patch blocks the correct size.  Duh.  Oh well, I have some extra blocks for a back or something.

I did do ok on my 16 patch blocks though.  They do use 2 1/2 inch blocks.  Now, I'm itching to do the pink and the purple kaleidoscope blocks and to finish some quilts.  Hope all is ok around here and I can get to some of it.
On the Craftsy BOM 2013 some people had used the coloring page and did a mock up of their quilt.  I decided to try it, although I had no idea how until I saw instructions by KarenFSP, "I used Windows Paint. In my computer Paint is located under the Accessories menu under All Programs. I opened the Jan. block in Paint, highlighted the block, right-clicked to open the menu so I could copy the block. Then I opened the layout in Paint and pasted the block onto the layout. I drug the block to the space it belonged, resized it to fit the space, and rotated it to lay the way I wanted. I then pasted the remaining January blocks and did the same with them. I saved the new layout and proceeded using the same method to copy and paste the February and March blocks onto the layout. Hope this works for you!"   I never used Paint before, and was quite proud of myself.  Neat, huh.
Since I can't ever do anything in moderation, I also did one for the Craftsy Repiecing the Past.

It's Only Just Begun!

I think SoScrappy has created a monster.  I seem to be like eating Lay's potato chips, I can't stop at just one Rainbow Scrap Quilt.  Today I ran across Don't Call Me Betsy's QAL from 2011, "Kaleidoscope", and I was so tempted, and then I thought, I was tempted before by Elaine Adairs beautiful Kaleidoscope quilts, so I kind of mixed them together.  I didn't have Elaine's big ruler, so I used Elizabeth's (she said don't call her Betsy) dimensions, and Elaine's strips.  I only got enough for 7 cuts from my strip set so I had to do two strip sets for one block.  I know I'll get better at these.  Bad news, I have to go back and make a pink one and a purple one for January and February's colors.

Here's what my orange will be like if I decide on the Rainbow Bargello.

And if I decide on the Rainbow Scrappy Trip Along.

Next month, when I have 4 colors I'll see how the Rainbow Scrappy trip along would look, but I couldn't resist seeing what the scrappy Bargello might look like.   Tomorrow (Tuesday), we start the process to get DH out of rehab.  We are having the home assessment at 11:00 and the meeting with the social worker at 3:30.  Shouldn't be long now.
For more RSC 2013 visit Angela here.
PS  Update DH came home yesterday (Friday).  We are adjusting and doing fine.
