100th Post

Wow, I just realized that this is my 100th post. I guess that I had better have a giveaway. Not sure what I'm giving away yet, but if you leave a comment you will be in for one chance, and as per the usual rules, a link to my giveaway will get you another chance. I wish that I had thought ahead and had a pretty picture of the prize to display, but as usual I am not completely with it. Since I have to have time to think, I will have the drawing next Wednesday, August 13th, how's that. I can't promise handmade, but I do promise it will be something quilty and nice.

Giveaway

Marit is having a giveaway on her blog Marits Hobbyblogg for her 100th post. As you can see, it is for a beautiful set of potholders and napkin holder. Her blog is very charming and worth a visit just to look around.

Granddaughter, Gifts, Giveaways, and Mail

What a wonderful day today. At 9:00 AM this morning my granddaughter Tabitha came over and we tried to do some crochet. Since it has been years since I have done any serious crochet, and I'm right handed and she's left handed it was a struggle, but she is starting to catch on in spite of me, and I think will be adept soon. She stayed about 6 hours, and it was great to be able to visit with her and have lunch together. DH was here too, and he also enjoyed it, and checked her oil and did manly grandfather things. While she was here the mailman came, and I got to show off a bit. The top picture is a lovely gift from Amanda who has turned into a dear friend. We will probably never meet, as traveling doesn't look to be in the cards for either of us, but it sure is easy to feel like you know her. I'm borrowing the books to learn more about Bath, which she recently visited and the stitchery was a wonderful surprise. It was beautiful on her blog, but even more so in person. Another package was The Quilter's Homecoming and a really pretty fat quarter (I love butterflies) from Erin of Hannie's Annie's. Quilter's are the most generous people in the world. I had won a giveaway on Doni's blog for a fat quarter, and it came today, too. 'Life is good' Doni, and I love the fat quarter. It reminds me of ticking, which I love, and will add to any quilt. Not too many such good mail days around here.

I almost forgot my package that came from Connecting Threads. I got two fat quarter samplers, you can see a sample in the last picture, and also a little gadget to hold rulers steadier, and some Chaco Liner pens to try. Whew, you know it was a good mail day when I forget my Connecting Thread order.

Donna's Beautiful Quilt Arrived

Yesterday was a wonderful mail day. I got this squishy envelope, which I instantly knew what was inside, but controlled myself a bit, so I could share. My instinct was ooh, ooh, ooh, and rip, rip, rip, but I slowed down, and grabbed my camera instead. Even the paper was special, as Donna from Donna's - In The Attic had scanned the label fabric and used it for a cover letter. That and her pretty card just added to the anticipation.

As you can see, the quilt is even more exquisite than the letter and if you were in person, you could see that it is even more beautiful than the pictures. The label is beautiful (how does she write so tiny and so neat) the fabrics are beautiful, and the quilting is perfect. My husband was nice enough to hold it up for me, so I could get the entire quilt, front and back.

I thought it looked pretty on the back of the family room couch, but when I went in my sewing room I realized that I couldn't see it, so I went and got it and put it at the end of the bed. It looks pretty there too. I'm not sure yet where its actual home will be, but it is so pretty that it will look nice anywhere. I think that I am very very fortunate indeed, and it will always be treasured.

I Can't Believe I Won!

Have you ever seen a more beautiful little quilt? I haven't, and now I will be enjoying it every day. I got up this morning and checked Donna's blog, DONNA'S In The Attic, hoping but not expecting to win. I followed along reading the captions, saw I was number 12 followed along some more and saw that 12 was on the winning paper, couldn't believe it, so went up and double checked, and then still thinking it was too good to be true read the rest until I got to my name. Wow, it is so beautiful. I so enjoyed following along as Donna made her quilts, and with this one when she used the animal print I thought, "Mother loved animal prints, that is so neat". I will love this quilt for many reasons.

Key Rings and Gnomes and Giveaway

I hardly ever go on the back porch lately, as it is so hot, and it is so hard to get out the sliding glass door. We have 3 locks, and a rod, I guess we are security conscious or else neurotic. We don't live in a crime ridden area, but we like to be secure. Anyway, while I was out there watering my avacado tree (which I grew from a seed), I thought that I might as well take a picture of my new gnome that I got at Target yesterday on sale. I have another big one on the porch that I call John, the one in the planter is little John, and I am calling the new one Sean. John is after my father-in-law, who loved to garden and anything 'nature'. Sean is standing on top of the pot that my avacodo tree was in before we repotted it, and unfortunately the little tree isn't showing up too well, and I cut off it's top.
While I was out there, I looked up and noticed that I was being watched, so I took a picture of my visitor. The round circle thing on the left is a golfing contraption that my husband bought and never used much. It was supposed to help you have a perfect swing.

On Lynette Anderson Designs she got a new key ring, very pretty in the shape of a strawberry, and she is asking for pictures of others and then is having a giveaway of a new 'woof' pattern. The first picture is of a gift key chain from my son's youngest son Kevin, and a gift key chain from my son Robert and his wife Brenda. The second is a key chain with a flashlight that my mother 'won' at the casino. I can't understand the love of gambling, but she enjoyed her times at the casino, and so I'm glad that she had something exciting in her life. The last is my 'Hold to the Rod' key chain. It is not pretty, but it has religious significance and meaning. You can read it a little, I think.

I Just Found Another One - Giveaway

This one is Brenda's at Pumpkin Patch Primitives she is making up and giving away a kit for this beauty. Just leave a comment.

New Ironing Board and Giveaway

I finally got around to making my version of the 'big board' ironing board. Mine is 14x47 inches, and it is a big improvement over my little mini ironing board. I got a shelf from Ikea, and covered it with heavy duty foil, then covered that with a layer of cotton batting, which I stapled down so it would be permanent. Then I covered that with a layer of the silver ironing board cloth, which I taped down so that I could change it easily if necessary. I have also read that someone uses freezer paper, and then just keeps replacing that to keep the ironing board from getting nasty looking. I am going to try that as I have a box that I have had forever. I was going to use a 24x48 inch piece of pressed board, but that was very heavy, and this is pretty light so can be removed easily to cut big pieces of fabric. For small pieces, I have a small cutting board that I can just lay on top. At least, that is the plan.
The fat quarters below are a giveaway from Embroidery Treasures. Serena says you can sign up until June 16th by leaving a comment on her blog. It is only open to US residents.

3 Giveaways to Enter

I have run across 3 giveaways in the past couple of days. One is on Home Sweet Home Jo Jo's site, and she has 2 giveaway's "first prize on offer will be your choice of any 2 of the ‘Bling for Pins’ that appear in the picture on her blog and the second…..well the second is a mystery????". I think I would like the 'Bling for Pins'. The second is Go Doodles N Quilt, which I had mentioned in my post on May 18, and she is giving away an adorable doll from her new business. The third is from Doxies on My Quilt. Rhonda is celebrating her 100th post. She gave a hint of what she's giving. It sure is pretty fabric.
