I have a quarter inch foot similar to the one you describe for my Janome. I don't use it, as it's not an accurate quarter inch unless I fiddle about with the needle setting every time I use it. It's also a bit of a pain if you haven't trimmed off the little 'rabbit ears' as it won't go over them, nor can you use it for half square triangles as it won't go over the fabric.
